RVYC Summer Leadership Counsellor

Job description

River Valley Youth Centre, located at the rink level of the River Valley Community Centre in Grand Bay-Westfield, operated by the BGC Greater Saint John (formerly the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John), is currently looking for a Summer Leadership Counsellor.

At the BGC Greater Saint John we believe that every youth is amazing. To teens, their Club should feel like a place where they can hang out with friends, and make new ones, but it is so much more than that. It’s a safe place that provides them with three of the things that they need most: a sense of belonging, a sense of success, and positive relationships.

About You

Summer Leadership Counsellors are people who believe in youth, and want to help them achieve their full potential. Counsellors develop strong, caring, relationships with the children and youth, while leading fun and engaging programs. They provide mentorship, guidance, and support, as youth build confidence, develop leadership skills, make healthy choices, and increase the likelihood that they will finish school.

The Job

Summer Leadership Counsellors at the River Valley Youth Centre will plan and lead programs for middle school aged youth for July and August, 2022. These programs will be a combination of both National BGC and local programs. Counsellors will assist the Team Lead in planning and implementing programs to create a great summer experience for Grand Bay-Westfield youth.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of developmental needs of youth;
  • Social Development Check (conducted during interview process) and Clear Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Workplace Standard First Aid & CPR (must be obtained before first day of work)

Hours: 30-40 per week from June 20th to August 26th, 2022

Wages: $14.00 per hour

Summer Inclusion Support Worker (Seaside Park Elementary)

Job description

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 8 hours daily, which will fall between the hours of 7:30AM-6:00PM. Hours may vary based on the needs of the specific child you will be working with.

BGC brings out the best potential of every child. Our Clubs offer children a safe, affordable, enriching and fun place to go after school. We provide challenging activities that encourage healthy living, personal growth, learning, and community involvement. We build self-esteem through supportive adult mentors and engaging activities that challenge and enrich the mind, body and spirit of each child.

The BGC Greater Saint John is currently seeking an Inclusion Support Worker. The successful candidate will join a team providing after school programming at the BGC Greater Saint John in our Seaside Park location. The Inclusion Support Worker will work with one specific child in order to provide additional supports to that child in a group setting.

Certifications:

  • Current Workplace Standard First Aid/CPR (16-hour course);
  • Clear criminal record, vulnerable sector and social development background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or have completed a program that deals with child behavioral management or childhood exceptionalities (i.e. Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Education);
  • Experience working with children with exceptionalities;
  • Knowledge of strategies designed to promote inclusive environments and programs in childcare;
  • Work collaboratively within the after school childcare team/program to provide an inclusive program for a child with exceptionalities;

Job Types: Contract (Summer)

Salary: $15.42 per hour

Summer Youth Leadership Mentor

Full-time hours, Seasonal

Location: 

BGC Education Center, 37 Hanover Street

Hours of Work:

8:30am – 5:30pm Monday to Friday

Program runs from 9am-4pm for youth

This is a seasonal position starting in June and ending in August, 2022.

BGC helps bring out the potential in every youth. Our Clubs offer children and youth, from pre-school to young adulthood, a safe, affordable, enriching and fun place to go for the summer.

We provide challenging activities that encourage healthy living, personal growth, learning, leadership development, and community involvement. We build self-esteem through supportive adult mentors and engaging activities that challenge and enrich the mind, body and spirit of each child and youth.

BGC Greater Saint John is currently seeking a Summer Youth Leadership Mentor.  The successful candidate will join a team in providing summer programing at the BGC Education Center.

Working under the direction of the Program Director, Leadership Mentors organize, plan and implement a variety of activities for youth ages 12-15.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting;
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills;
  • Cleared criminal record and vulnerable sector check;*
  • Social Development Background Check;*
  • Valid Standard Workplace First aid & CPR ‘C’ certificate.*

BGC Greater Saint John is currently seeking After School Educators. Successful candidates will join a team of Educators providing after school programming at BGC. After School Educators will also work full time hours on school holidays and closures, including Winter Break, March Break and Summer Break. After School Educators will be responsible to organize, plan and implement a variety of fun and engaging activities for school age children.

Qualifications:

  • College or other non-university certificate or diploma or 1or 2 years or equivalent experience;

. Early Childhood Education Diploma is considered an asset;

  • Prior experience working with school-age children in a group setting;
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills;
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check and clear Social Development Background Check;
  • 16-hour Workplace Standard First aid & CPR ‘C’ valid certificate. **

**Applicants may apply before they receive their first aid certificate, criminal record check or social development check, but must receive all 3 before being offered a position.

Part-time hours: 25-30 per week, Monday – Friday, 1pm-6pm.

Full-time hours (seasonal): PD days, school breaks, and summer holidays, up to 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 7:30am and 6:00pm.

Expected start date: Immediately

Salary: $15.90-$22.47 per hour
